Avalon Beach Explores

Head out of Melbourne towards Geelong for 63km & you’ll hit Avalon Coastal Reserve - a foreshore reserve with rock groynes  & tidal sand flats & perfect for exploring.

Located on the northern shore of Corio Bay, it’s an old saltworks site with bike/pedestrian access through a shallow pond system.

Hugging the foreshore is a short strip of fibro beach shacks - pretty much untouched since they were used as a backdrop for ‘the ice-cream scene’ in Mad Max, shot in 1979.

Heaps of paths wind through the salt marsh vegetation making it a great location for gravelling - check it out.
